Also known as Soloway Optical, we’ve been providing trusted eye care to patients in Winnipeg and communities across Manitoba for over 70 years.

Our clinic has a long history of providing eye care for First Nation and Inuit patients through the NIHB (Non-Insured Health Benefits) program, offering complete care and direct billing in a welcoming, respectful environment.

Clinic Optical also holds the patient files from See N’Save Optical, so former patients can easily continue their eye care with us.

NIHB Eye Care

We provide comprehensive eye care for patients covered under the NIHB (Non-Insured Health Benefits) program.

Our clinic is equipped with advanced diagnostic technology, including optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fundus photography, which help our optometrists examine the retina and optic nerve in detail when medically necessary. These tools are especially useful for identifying and monitoring changes related to diabetes and other health conditions, helping ensure thorough, ongoing eye care for every patient.

Our staff understand the NIHB program and handle all billing directly, making your visit simple and stress-free.

Frequency / Eligibility

Adults (18–64): Eligible once every two calendar years under NIHB.
Children (0–17) and seniors (65+): Eligible once per calendar year.
Coverage is based on the calendar year, meaning eligibility resets on January 1.
In some cases, additional exams may be approved if there’s a medical reason, such as diabetes, glaucoma, or significant vision change.

Frames & Eyewear

We carry more than 500 frames fully covered under the NIHB program, giving our First Nation and Inuit patients access to quality eyewear at no cost, including progressive lenses. Our NIHB collection features trusted, durable, and stylish brands such as Adin Thomas, Elements, and db4k for children. We also rotate special selections and limited-availability styles throughout the year, giving NIHB patients even more choice from a variety of brands. New options arrive regularly!

Our team handles all approvals and direct billing, so you can simply choose the style you like and we take care of the rest.

For patients outside of the NIHB program, Clinic Optical also offers a full range of independent and designer eyewear, from classic to contemporary styles, featuring brands like Scott Harris, Michael Ryen, Cinzia, Côte d’Azur, and American Optical, along with db4k REACT for kids.

These brands are also available to NIHB patients, with a small additional cost depending on the frame selected.
